Egg donor IVF with fresh or frozen donated eggs?
We at Ovumia Fertinova have been succesfully performing egg donor IVF treatments for already 25 yeas now. We started egg donation treatments using fresh donated eggs and were the first clinic in Finland to set up an egg bank of our own (The Finnish Egg Bank) already in 2015. This means that we can offer both fresh and frozen donated eggs for your convenience. When the donor egg IVF treatment is planned, you can discuss these options with your doctor.
Egg donor IVF with fresh eggs
In egg donation with fresh donor eggs, menstrual cycles of the donor and recipient need to be synchronized. This can take a couple of months and is often more time consuming than the egg donation with frozen eggs. The recipient’s endomtrium is medically prepared for the embryo transfer. However, the endometrium preparation and the follow-up ultrasounds of the recipient can be done in her home country. On the day of egg donor’s ovum pick-up, the donated eggs are fertilized with the partner’s (or donor) sperm. A few days later an embryo is transferred to the recipients womb and all other good embryos are frozen. They can be used later in the future treatments, if necessary.
Egg donor IVF with frozen eggs
In egg donation with frozen donor eggs the process is more flexible. Donor’s and recipients menstrual cycles don’t need to be synchronized, so the treatment can take place whenever it is most suitable for the recipient. The recipient’s endomtrium is medically prepared for the embryo transfer. The endometrium preparation and the follow-up ultrasounds of the recipient can be done in her home country. On the selected day our embryologist thaws the the donated, frozen eggs and they are fertilized with the partner’s (or donor) sperm. A few days later an embryo is transferred to the recipients womb and all other good embryos are frozen.
